Pros: Some VPPs offer an upfront discount on battery cost, payments for energy your home supplies to the grid, higher feed-in tariffs, or fixed monthly payments. Some variable payment programs go as high as $1 per kWh or more during peak grid events.

Cons: With most VPPs you are giving up some control of your battery to a third party. Some programs can cycle your battery hard, which shortens its lifespan. Some leave minimal reserve capacity available to you, which matters if you are relying on the battery for blackout protection. Read the fine print carefully, as some VPP offers are better than they look, and some are worse.
